I took a bit of a hiatus from my camera this semester. It’s gotten more finicky in it’s ability to focus, and my 50mm lens needs some help, leaving me with just the 85mm. It’s been nice to get back in the swing of things, though, with the traditional Christmas break swampland portrait shoots.

I’ve been missing England something fierce for the last couple weeks. So, to remind myself it wasn’t all exactly a walk in the park, I dug up this guy. Note the Scribble of Stress at the bottom of the page. It nearly made my pen run out of ink.

There are two reasons I haven’t taken pictures yet this term:

1) My main tutorial is Politics in Sub-Saharan Africa. It gives me a constant excuse to look at maps, and, er, brush up my African geography on Sporcle. Plus, I found this site called MAPfrappe, from which I’ve recently learned that Somalia is roughly the length of America’s Eastern Seaboard.

2) It rains all the time. Multiple times a day, basically every day. And it’s SO COLD for May. While you Missourians are sweating out your 80-degree weather, we’re lucky if it hits 60. It just isn’t camera weather.

Speaking of the weather, supposedly England is having a drought. I find this highly amusing, considering the fact that I’m quite happy if I can keep a pair of socks dry for the whole day.

This is a recent conversation I overheard in the Middle East Centre (as it was raining outside).

Janitor guy for the MEC: “…but we aren’t getting enough rain.”

Arab man: “Not enough rain??”

Janitor: “And I’ve just heard a report saying that we’re getting the wrong sort of rain when it does rain!”

Arab: “Well, what sort of rain is the right sort of rain?!”

Janitor: “Wetter rain, I suppose!”

Rumor has it that this may turn out to be the year that Summer VIII’s gets cancelled, because the river is too high, because the ground isn’t absorbing water, which is because of the drought combined with the fact that IT’S RAINING EVERY DAY.

Oh, England.
